Account Deletion

Last updated: May 9, 2026

This page explains how to delete your account on the Sinatabu mobile app and website, published by Suadeo Technologies Limited. It also describes what data is deleted, what is retained, and for how long, in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya) and our Privacy Policy.

Don't want to delete your whole account? You can delete just some of your data — comments, reviews, closed finds, saved items, browsing history or personalisation — and keep your account active. In the app: Settings → Manage My Data. On the web: Account → Personal info → Manage my data.
1. Delete your account from inside the app

If you still have the Sinatabu app installed and can sign in:

  1. Open the Sinatabu app and sign in.
  2. Tap the Profile tab, then Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Delete Account.
  4. Read the warning, confirm with your password (or email address if you signed up with Google), then tap Delete My Account.
  5. Your session will be ended immediately and your account will be deactivated.
2. Request deletion by email (no app or sign-in required)

If you have already uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, send us an email and we will process the deletion on your behalf.

  • To: support@sinatabu.com
  • Subject: Delete my Sinatabu account
  • Body: Include the email address and (if known) phone number associated with your account so we can locate and verify it. Do not send your password.

We will reply within 7 days to confirm receipt and may ask one or two follow-up questions to verify your identity. Once verified, the account will be deleted and you will receive a final confirmation email.

3. What gets deleted

The following are removed or anonymised immediately when your deletion is processed:

  • Your name, phone number, profile picture, and any Google sign-in identifiers.
  • Your email address — replaced with a one-way hashed value so it can no longer identify you or be reused to recover the account.
  • Push-notification tokens and device subscriptions.
  • All active sign-in sessions and authentication tokens.
  • Your shops and personal-shopper profiles — soft-deleted and hidden from public listings, search and recommendations.
  • Your active deal-room conversations — archived (no longer reachable from the app).
  • Your pending bookings — cancelled.
  • Your active bids on other people's finds — withdrawn.
  • Your saved favourites and saved searches.
4. What is retained, and for how long

A small amount of information is kept for a limited time so that the deletion is reversible while in error, and so we can meet legal, accounting and anti-fraud obligations:

Data Retention period Why we keep it
Anonymised user shell record (no PII — only an internal numeric ID and a deletion timestamp) Up to 90 days after deletion, then permanently purged by an automated job To keep references in messages and reviews coherent during the grace window, and to allow recovery if the deletion was made in error.
Soft-deleted shops and personal-shopper profiles 30 days, then permanently purged by an automated job (including all associated bids, comments, replies, reviews and uploaded images) To allow recovery in case of accidental deletion, after which all data is permanently removed.
Messages, comments and reviews you authored Retained but attributed to “Deleted User” once the shell record is purged Removing them would damage the conversation history of other users (the merchant or buyer on the other side of the chat).
Transactional and financial records (e.g. order details, completed bookings, invoices, payouts where applicable) Up to 7 years from the date of the transaction, where required by Kenyan tax and accounting law To comply with statutory record-keeping obligations.
Security and anti-abuse logs (e.g. IP address used at deletion time, fraud signals, audit trails) Up to 12 months To detect and prevent fraud, abuse and ban-evasion attempts.
Aggregated and anonymous usage statistics that no longer identify you Indefinitely To measure platform health and improve the product. This data does not identify you and cannot be linked back to you.

After the 90-day grace window, an automated nightly job permanently deletes the anonymised user shell record. After that point, the deletion is irreversible — we cannot restore the account even if you ask us to.

5. Account recovery during the 90-day window

If you change your mind within 90 days of deletion, email support@sinatabu.com from the email address on the deleted account. We may be able to restore the account if the 90-day window has not yet expired and the data has not yet been purged. After 90 days, recovery is not possible and you would need to create a new account.

6. Children's accounts

Sinatabu is not intended for children under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has created an account, email support@sinatabu.com and we will delete it on a priority basis.

7. Your other rights

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and other applicable laws, you also have the right to access a copy of your data, correct inaccurate data, object to or restrict certain processing, and lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC). See section 9 of our Privacy Policy for more details and how to exercise these rights.
